NCS: Bronx

NCSB logo revised

With a waitlist of over 1400 students, Neighborhood Charter Schools has decided to replicate our high-performing model in the Bronx.

We have already been approved by the New York State Board of Regents and in August 2019 will open Neighborhood Charter School: Bronx as an exact replication of Neighborhood Charter School: Harlem. Like NCSH, NCSB will have a full inclusion program for students with autism. NCSB will open with four sections of kindergarten and three sections of first grade. At full scale, the school will be K-8.

NCSB will be housed in a brand new facility in Community School District 7, South Bronx.

We are excited to be part of the Bronx community and to provide Bronx families with a high quality option in schooling!

Applications for enrollment for NCSB will be available December 1, 2018 online.

The Need and Our Model

According to data reported by the New York State Education Department, CSD 7 represents one of the highest needs populations in New York City. On the 2016 state exam, 19% of students were proficient in English Language Arts and 16% in math. Our proven academic program will focus on making sure that our students in the Bronx are fluent readers and confident writers, have solid math skills, and become independent learners and critical thinkers.

We are proud of our school model that focuses on providing educational opportunities for students with special needs. We will be the first and only charter school in the Bronx to offer a specialized program for students with high-functioning Autism Spectrum Disorders (ASD). Eight to ten seats are set aside in each grade for our ASD program.

Members of our staff will present to community groups, civic leaders, families, and local residents throughout the South Bronx as we prepare to submit our application to the New York State Education Department.
